The Two Wedding Weekend
October 11th, 2010
I love weddings, so two in a weekend constitutes a very good weekend for me! My main premise in Cheerful Madness was that every journey to marriage is unique, and my thesis held up over the last two days.
Lucy and Tim are young, have had a stable and pure and simple courtship, tried and proved over three years of long distance between them, and have made what has seemed to be a very dignified and straightforward progression to the altar. Their wedding was an exuberant celebration- the joy and optimism of the occasion were enough to convert even the worst cynic to the great wonders of matrimony. There was a gorgeous white dress, a flower-filled church, a tiered cake, speeches, dancing, tears, squeals and laughter.
Jem and Isha have walked over broken glass to find each other. It is not my place to tell their stories here, but their wedding was a profound and grace-filled occasion, a beautiful reminder that second chances are on offer if we are brave enough to take them, and that love conquers all. It was held in a quirky arts cinema, we had champagne and popcorn, we walked through Bath holding big yellow balloons to the restaurant and a wonderful time was had by all. Isha is now my sister, and my brother's future is looking good.
